World Athletics has issued a formal reminder to the British team regarding its policies on religious and political slogans after Welsh sprinter Jeremiah Azu wore a headband bearing the message "100% Jesus" during the World Championships in Tokyo. The 24-year-old athlete secured fourth place in Sunday's men's 100m semi-finals, narrowly missing a spot in the final, which was claimed by Oblique Seville. Azu remains eligible to compete in the 4x100m relay event, scheduled for Saturday, but the governing body emphasized compliance with its regulations.

In a statement, World Athletics clarified that the use of religious or political slogans during competitions is prohibited. "We are aware of the headband, and as he may compete in the relay, we will remind the team ahead of the event about our regulations and the potential consequences," the organization said. Azu, who recently made history as the fastest Welshman ever in wind-legal 100m conditions with a 9.97-second run last year, had previously won gold in the 60m at the World Athletics Indoor Championships in Nanjing, China, in March. His achievements include a bronze medal in the 4x100m relay at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
