Terence Crawford’s Trainer Sends ‘Career Ruining’ Warning To Devin Haney

Terence Crawford’s Trainer Sends ‘Career Ruining’ Warning To Devin Haney

Brian McIntyre believes Devin Haney moving up to welterweight could ruin his career due to the fact that his fighter Terence Crawford would be there waiting for him.

Haney became a two-division world champion at just 25-years-old earlier this month, dominating WBC title-holder Regis Prograis in a spellbinding performance.

The move up to 140lbs came after well-documented difficulties making the lightweight limit, forcing Haney to vacate his undisputed crown in pursuit of a more comfortable division to conquer.

Despite fighting just once at super-lightweight, the idea of a move up to the 147 division have already emerged from ‘The Dream’ and his team, regardless of the potential allure of fights against superstar rivals such as Teofimo Lopez and Ryan Garcia in his current division.

In an interview on ThaBoxingVoice, ‘BoMac’ has urged Haney away from a move up, damningly predicting that Crawford would end his career if he dared to challenge him for one of his three titles.

“He would ruin that boy’s career. He’ll ruin his career, trust me.”

“Most fighters at that age [thirty-six], they start declining. He [Crawford] gets better and better each fight. He takes care of himself, he’s a student of the game. They better quit f***ing with Bud.”

Haney’s decision to move up could potentially hinge on Crawford’s plans to do the same, with ‘Bud’ linked to a rematch with Errol Spence Jr up at 154lbs, which could possibly lead him to vacate the belts and leave the door open for Haney to sweep them up.

Alternatively, Haney has been touted for a showdown with Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis, although his father and trainer, Bill, along with promoter Eddie Hearn, have revealed that Davis has decided to turn down a monumental offer for the bout.
