Trainer Ben Davison on Anthony Joshua: I’d Really Like To Put That Usyk Fight Right For Him

Highly regarded trainer Ben Davison has thrown his hat into the ring to help Anthony Joshua finally figure out Oleksandr Usyk. Last Saturday night in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, Joshua dominated Otto Wallin and silenced critics who questioned his identity in the ring. After two straight losses to Usyk, Davison believes that he has the knowhow to help Joshua get his revenge.

“Being selfish, I’d really like to put that Usyk fight right for him,” Davison said. “I don’t know if that’s even doable. But that’s something that I would love to help him do. That’s something I said to him first when came down to the gym, that I’m really confident that we’d be able to help him put that right.”

Joshua and Davison have not yet confirmed that they will be working together on Joshua’s next fight, but it seems a likely possibility given the success of the Wallin fight. Davison has trained the likes of Tyson Fury and Devin Haney and is confident in his ability to get Joshua in a position to avenge his losses to Usyk.

Though it is unclear who Joshua will face in the spring, a possible opponent is his promotional stablemate Filip Hrgovic. If the IBF decides to strip the winner of Fury and Usyk’s upcoming fight, Hrgovic could become the IBF heavyweight champion.

Regardless of the outcome of his fight with Usyk, Joshua is sure to benefit from Davison’s experience and insight. With Davison in his corner, Joshua may be one step closer to reclaiming his heavyweight title.
