Gladiator 2 will be without the music of Hans Zimmer, and the composer now explains why. Released in 2000, Ridley Scott’s Gladiator follows Russell Crowe’s Maximus, a Roman general, as he is betrayed and sold into slavery. The film was a major hit and remains one of the most beloved movies of Scott’s career. Zimmer’s original score for Gladiator is one of the movie’s greatest strengths, but Harry Gregson-Williams will be replacing Zimmer for the upcoming sequel, which stars Paul Mescal as Lucius.
