Uganda and DRC Forge New Defense Pact as Muhoozi Concludes Strategic Kinshasa Visit

General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, Chief of Defence Forces of Uganda, has wrapped up a high-profile diplomatic mission to the Democratic Republic of Congo focused on strengthening bilateral military coordination. The visit featured pivotal security discussions with senior Congolese leadership and culminated in new defense agreements.

During the engagement, General Muhoozi held extensive talks with Lieutenant General Jules Banza Mwilambwe, Chief of General Staff for DR Congo's Armed Forces (FARDC). Key deliberations centered on Operation Shujaa, the ongoing joint offensive against armed insurgents destabilizing eastern DRC. Both commanders reaffirmed commitments to consolidate territorial gains and expand security collaboration.

The military leaders formalized their enhanced partnership through a signed Memorandum of Understanding establishing frameworks for improved counterterrorism operations, intelligence exchange, and cross-border security management. The pact aims to bolster coordinated actions against regional militant networks.

General Muhoozi further conducted strategic discussions with President Félix Tshisekedi at the Palais de la Nation, addressing broader bilateral relations, regional stability initiatives, and cross-border development programs. The Congolese government demonstrated hospitality through a farewell banquet hosted by Lt. Gen. Mwilambwe, attended by top military officials and diplomatic representatives.

Security analysts highlight the visit as evidence of deepening military coordination between Kampala and Kinshasa in combating insurgency in eastern Congo. Both nations pledged continued alignment through East African Community and African Union mechanisms to sustain regional stability efforts.
